If you’re a registered attendee of Brickworld Chicago this year, we would like to extend an exclusive opportunity.
Similar to our NMRA 2018 National Train Show exclusive, we are happy to announce that an exclusive Premium Instructions Kit is now available for registered attendees of Brickworld Chicago 2019 to pre-order.
The Model
To celebrate the Sesquicentennial of the completion of the first Transcontinental Railroad in the United States, I chose to model a B-50-25 “Challenger” Express Boxcar.
I’ve always had a taste for shorter (in height) boxcars, as well as clean but attractive paint schemes. This car checks all of those boxes. This particular car has been an interest for me since I first saw Nate Brill’s rendition of one a few years ago. It was a striking grey and red scheme with a stylized “The Challenger” to the right of the doors.
However, that’s about where the ties to Nate’s car stop. As I got into research, I found there to be several challenges (no pun intended) that I’d have to solve, most notably the doors and roof, as there is a deceivingly small amount of useful parts in dark grey. The doors are each five studs wide and mirrored copies of each other, and protrude by half a stud from the body. The trucks were the last hurdle, but with a little help from Cale, I was able to button up the design pretty quickly.

Be sure to look for Cale once you get to Brickworld; he’ll probably be hanging around the LGMS layout. He will have the kits there and will be happy to deliver yours personally. Brick Model Railroader is looking forward to Brickworld and excited to be a part of the train related fun this year.
Thanks everyone for your continued support.
