Germany has\u00a0always been one of the more respected Railway countries in Europe. Their transport system, combining ICE, IC and Regional trains with busses, trams and metro’s, has always been a fan favorite in Europe, definitely if your country shares their longest border with them. But even the Germans had some issues with the profitably of certain routes.\u00a0As a solution, in 1950 the Uerdinger Schienenbus<\/a> was introduced. In the year that the first ones are becoming 67, and thus reach (future) legal retirement age in Germany, Florian (Flogo<\/a>) has managed to recreate one of them in our beloved bricks.<\/p>\n

In his introduction on the German 1000steine.de forum<\/a> he tells us that this thing is fully motorized, using just one of the two wheel sets of a PF train motor, the other axle hole -without wheels in it- being hidden behind shrouding. As Flogo explains, it can even pull some carriages, just like the real thing did. For this, he has made a separate magnet coupling that can be slid into the front of the VT98. Also, he has tried to stay as true to the original dimensions as possible; hence it’s build 8 wide for maximum detailing and has 7 side windows, just like the real thing.<\/p>\n

For such a smal model, it has so many great details, like the springs in the buffers, the revolvers used for the wheel shrouding, the subtle offset on the nose, etc etc.<\/p>\n
